Acupressure For Heart: 3 Simple Things You Can Do Everyday

Sep 29, 2017

World Heart Day is a nice way for all of us to remind ourselves of the one muscle in our body that works 24×7: Our heart. What if we told you that one of the simplest things that you can do for your heart is right here, in your hands?

There are tens of thousands of published research studies on how well acupuncture works, including studies that focus on heart health. But most of us can’t access qualified acupuncturists. Using needles on ourselves without training is also not advisable. So, what should we do?

Acupressure is based on principles that are similar to acupuncture – both work on energy meridians to bring about great health. Acupressure for the heart is something you can do right now, wherever you’re sitting and watching this video. I’ve treated all kinds of ailments using all forms of acupressure – Chinese, South Indian and Reflexology, so I know how powerful it is.

3 Simple Acupressure Points For Your Heart Health

Acupressure Point Number 1

This is a Reflexology point located in the palm of your left hand. Here’s how you locate it. Just come down, on the palm, between the ring finger and the little finger, till you reach this point just inside the base of the bone of the little finger. Acupressure therapists recommend that you press this point using your thumb, for up to 30 seconds to a minute. You can do this twice or thrice a day for great heart health. It’s literally like pumping the actual heart and giving it a massage!

Acupressure Point Number 2

This point comes to us from Chinese Acupuncture. It is located on Heart meridian and is again quite easy to locate. First, locate this round bone at the base of your palm. Trace it towards the inside. At the bottom border of the bone is the point, called Shen Men or Spirit Gate in Chinese Acupuncture. You can use your thumb to press inward and then use a circular motion to make sure that you have activated the small point. Do this for 30 seconds to a minute. This too is recommended twice or thrice a day.

Acupressure Point Number 3

This point comes to us from the ancient south Indian art of Varmam, that I practice. Credit and deep gratitude for this point goes to Varmam Master Dr.N.Shunmugom of Coimbatore. The way to locate this point is to place the tip of your thumb just below the throat pit. And let the remaining fingers naturally touch the area on the chest, towards the point where the shoulder meets the left arm. Use the pads of your fingers to lightly press up and down 5 times every day.

I do this every morning after my bath. According to varmam literature, different organs of our body receive energy from different stars or nakshatras of the universe on different days of the month. On the day of the Revathi Nakshatra, which comes on one day of the month as per the Hindu almanac, the star sends special energy to rejuvenate your heart. If you tap this point on that day, you activate the receiving station in your body. The amazing thing is, when someone has a heart that does not beat properly and they get a pacemaker implanted, this is the exact spot where the surgeon will place it.

Maybe the ancient Rishis knew there was a special connection between this point and heart function? So in today’s age, all you have to do to activate this point is to follow Aamir Khan from Three Idiots, and tap this point and say “All Eej Well”!

Happy tapping and here’s wishing you all vibrant health and well being!
